Almond Orchard Blossoms | Lincoln High Senior Portraits

When the blossoms started coming out on the trees this year, I knew I simply had to go exploring with my little muse (aka my oldest child… she loves to be in front of the camera!). I took along my film camera and we had a blast doing a little photo shoot. SO happy I didn’t miss the window since I know the blooming season is super short. There always seems to be tons of crazy rain right around the time that the orchards are blooming and I was worried all the flowers had already been washed away, but we lucked out and found a lovely orchard with plenty of trees in full bloom. This shoot with her made me realize how much I’d love to shoot more senior portraits! Seriously, it’s so much fun! (All photos shot on Fuji 400h with my Pentax 645nii… developed by the Find Lab.)

I was so nervous when my sweet fellow photographer friend asked me to do their family session all on film. But dang I’m so glad we did it! Nothing beats those colors on film! Plus their kiddos were so good for the shoot and made the whole thing super easy! Grateful for opportunities like this because shooting with my film camera just makes my heart sing! The anticipation of getting the pictures back from the lab weeks after taking them is just so fun (and may be a bit of torture, too! Haha!) but always worth it.

I’m loving how the colors turned out on film!

And we had the most AMAZING sunset during their portraits. I’m so lucky to get to share such beautiful moments with my clients!

Shooting film (old school style) just makes me so happy! I love how the colors turned out on this wedding, photographed on Kodak Portra 800. Also, these two were pretty dang awesome to work with! I adore both of them (and her amazing bouquet, complete with my favorite flowers!).

Impressions from January & February: A Personal Project

We started a fun tradition a few years ago to visit the same cabin in Soda Springs every Winter. We always go with my sister (who has four daughters similar in age to my kids) and we just soak up the relaxing cabin life. We play Uno around the crackling fire, drink way too much hot cocoa, decorate sugar cookies, and the kids play right outside the cabin in the snow. They will go out as soon as they wake up and then come in to warm up by the fire/dry their snow clothes. Then it’s back outside for more sledding! This place is pure magic for us and I just relish the memories we’ve made year after year. It’s now known among our children as “the cabin” and we look forward to our trip every Winter! This year we decided to try snowboarding at the resort down the road from the cabin. All the kids and I took snowboarding lessons and then spent the day on the hill. I officially have a whole new respect for people that snowboard! I also tried out skiing and BOTH were super challenging for me! The kids picked it up much quicker and now we are looking forward to going again next Winter (maybe we will even get season passes and go several times? Lucky for us, Tahoe is only a two hour drive!). I didn’t bring my big camera on this trip, but we took tons of cell phone pics. What To Wear To Your Engagement Session

I absolutely LOVE shooting engagement sessions! Not only does it give me a chance to get to know my clients better before the big day, but it also gives my clients a chance to become more comfortable in front of my camera. It’s awesome when I show up on the wedding day and I’ve already become friends with the bride and groom, since I got to know them better during the engagement session. While planning the engagement session, my clients often ask me for clothing suggestions, so I thought I might share my advice right here on the blog!GO DRESSY! I love it when the future bride wears a gorgeous dress. You might even check out Rent The Runway to get something extra fancy. You’ll have time to change into a second (and possibly even a third outfit) so you’re welcome to wear something more casual for the outfit change.COORDINATE! Wear the same color palette (without being matchy matchy) and also coordinate on the level of formality. DON’T FORGET ACCESSORIES. Bringing in more layers and accessories can add more interest to the pictures. Plus it’s nice to have something you can add or take away to have even more variety with your clothing options.

ADD COLOR & PATTERNS! Your engagement session is a great time to show off your individuality and possibly even incorporate the colors from your upcoming wedding day. Don’t be afraid of patterns and bright colors… They make the pictures more fun!PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP! I highly recommend getting your makeup done professionally. If you already have a makeup artist booked for your wedding, you might see if she’s available that day for a wedding day trial. Professional makeup artists know how to apply makeup that will last and also make you look your best for photos.

BRING TWO OUTFITS! Most couples bring two or three outfits for their session… One dressy and one more casual. It’s nice to have some variety!

Destination Wedding Photographer

Marie & Leo’s wedding at the Chateau de la Perriere in the French Countryside was nothing short of amazing! I don’t even know where to begin… This really was a dream come true for me to travel to France to photograph a wedding! I was even more honored because the wedding couple is so very sweet and simply perfect for each other! We started the morning at Marie’s family home in Angers (pronounced on-jay). Different parts of their home were built in the 16th, 17th, and 18th century, so I had a lot of fun photographing Marie’s wedding details around her home! We did the first look in front of the oldest part of their house. Then off to the chateau for some wedding portraits! Their wedding ceremony was inside what the U.S. would consider a city hall… which is required for all French weddings. Then back to the chateau for their wedding reception, which went until 4 am! It was a whirlwind day and I still can’t believe I got to be there for this! Here are all my favorites from the day…

I’ve been regularly adding a roll or two of medium format film to every photo shoot and wedding recently and I am just LOVING the results! Had to share a handful of favorites from this gorgeous Winter wedding I photographed at the LDS Sacramento temple in December. Aren’t they just the most adorable couple ever!? Also, her bouquet is so swoon worthy!
