When the blossoms started coming out on the trees this year, I knew I simply had to go exploring with my little muse (aka my oldest child… she loves to be in front of the camera!). I took along my film camera and we had a blast doing a little photo shoot. SO happy I didn’t miss the window since I know the blooming season is super short. There always seems to be tons of crazy rain right around the time that the orchards are blooming and I was worried all the flowers had already been washed away, but we lucked out and found a lovely orchard with plenty of trees in full bloom. This shoot with her made me realize how much I’d love to shoot more senior portraits! Seriously, it’s so much fun! (All photos shot on Fuji 400h with my Pentax 645nii… developed by the Find Lab.)

Impressions from January & February: A Personal Project

We started a fun tradition a few years ago to visit the same cabin in Soda Springs every Winter. We always go with my sister (who has four daughters similar in age to my kids) and we just soak up the relaxing cabin life. We play Uno around the crackling fire, drink way too much hot cocoa, decorate sugar cookies, and the kids play right outside the cabin in the snow. They will go out as soon as they wake up and then come in to warm up by the fire/dry their snow clothes. Then it’s back outside for more sledding! This place is pure magic for us and I just relish the memories we’ve made year after year. It’s now known among our children as “the cabin” and we look forward to our trip every Winter! This year we decided to try snowboarding at the resort down the road from the cabin. All the kids and I took snowboarding lessons and then spent the day on the hill. I officially have a whole new respect for people that snowboard! I also tried out skiing and BOTH were super challenging for me! The kids picked it up much quicker and now we are looking forward to going again next Winter (maybe we will even get season passes and go several times? Lucky for us, Tahoe is only a two hour drive!). I didn’t bring my big camera on this trip, but we took tons of cell phone pics. Impressions from September & October: A Personal Project

If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably already noticed that we adopted a new kitten recently! Scout is just the sweetest little guy and he already has such a special bond with my youngest daughter. I knew I needed to photograph these two on film. This was my first time shooting Portra 800 rated at 800 and pushing it one stop (if you’re not into shooting film, that probably means nothing to you, but I thought I’d include the info to help myself remember!). I really love the results and just how sweet these all turned out! My oldest daughter jumped in at the end for a few pictures, too. I never regret it when I take the time to do a mini photo shoot with my kiddos!

Impressions from January & February: A Personal Project

It’s time for another round of our blog circle and I knew I had to share some favorite images I shot on medium format film while we were on a family vacation in Mexico last month. I had big plans to take TONS of pictures on our trip, but we ended up being so busy swimming (with dolphins!!!), visiting some amazing water parks (Xcaret and Xelha), snorkeling, jet skiing… basically we spent the week having the most fun EVER! We did have a couple of days where I was able to bring my camera along, which made me so happy. The first three images were shot in the beautiful town of Playa Del Carmen. I couldn’t believe the color of the water there! SO gorgeous! I’m so glad we decided to book a tour to Chichen Itza! It’s been on my bucket list for quite a long time and it was even more expansive and amazing than I was expecting. We also stopped at the colonial town of Valladolid on our way back from Chichen Itza. I loved the beautiful old cathedral!This last pic was of our kids with their cousins… we traveled to Cancun with my sister’s family and I have to say, vacationing with another family makes it twice as fun! Highly recommend! These cousins had a blast making memories together.

Last night I took my littlest love out for some location scouting and fun with a few photographer friends. It was so much fun and I am now officially in love with this dreamy water location! So happy that my little muse was willing to cooperate for some pictures. This was a blast!

My littlest love turned seven recently, so I took her out for some birthday pictures! I love her so much! She’s super sweet and snuggly, but also very spunky and sassy… the perfect mix! She was definitely meant to be the baby of the family! Dress and flower crown from my favorite shop, Joyfolie.

The past couple of months have been pretty amazing! I adore the spring time, before the weather gets hot here in Sacramento. We’ve really been enjoying gardening, spring break, and some really gorgeous photo shoots! It’s time for another round of the Impressions blog circle, and it was fun going through my pictures from March & April so I could choose some favorites from the past couple of months.

First, I had to share a couple of pictures from the session I did in Napa recently. Yes, it was raining, but that definitely didn’t stop us from enjoying the beautiful scenery. Truly, Napa has my heart! It is an amazing part of California, and I’m excited to shoot some more weddings there this year. Here are two pictures taken at Brix… I love doing the macro ring shots!Next, I wanted to share a few pictures from the Spring Easter shoot I did in March with my kids and their cousins. My favorite little spot in Lincoln was looking so pretty…The girl scouts do some super fun field trips… this one was to Dancing Dog farm where we planted vegetables and pulled weeds in the hot sun. I was impressed with how hard all the little girls worked!And another field trip, to the SPCA, where we found our new little kitten, Felix!I remember how excited I was when my mom chaperoned my zoo field trip in first grade. So I knew I wanted to go with my youngest on this first grade field trip to the Sacramento zoo. So glad I did! With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, I wanted to share something very dear to my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever talked about this in such a public setting, but my mother passed away when I was 19. She didn’t like being in pictures, so I have very few of her from my years growing up. This makes me sad, since she was one of my best friends, and even though she didn’t love the way she looked in photos, I thought she was beautiful, inside AND out! Those photos of her that I do have mean the world to me! So I have made it a personal goal to BE in pictures with my loved ones… I want my children to have lots of pictures showing how much both of their parents love them. And I always encourage my clients to be in the pictures with their children. I have quite a few mothers say that they don’t want any pictures with their baby at the newborn session, in particular. So I always encourage them to get in front of the camera anyway, even if they don’t feel as beautiful as usual… Their child will treasure those pictures when they grow up! So here’s a little encouragement to all of you reading this. BE in pictures! You don’t have to share them online, but make sure you jump in for photos with each of your kids, get some pictures with your spouse (especially if you’re having a professional photo session!), get in the picture with that sweet newborn baby, even if you feel tired and worn out. You’ll be glad you did and you’ll be creating something that your loved ones will treasure. Happy Mother’s Day!

My cutie pie niece is turning 8 this June and getting baptized into the LDS church, so we thought we’d go out to my favorite spring location for some portraits in her pretty white dress! I had a LOT of favorites but I thought I’d share just a few on here for a little sneak peek. Also, can I just say that twirling pictures are my favorite… seriously!! A little girl twirling in a pretty dress is what childhood is all about.
