My own bedroom growing up consisted of a peach quilt and a cat poster that read “Bad Hair Day”. I loved filling my room with my own artwork and nick nacks I picked up on our family vacations. I didn’t realize it then, but I have always been a fan of home decorating. I wish I had pictures of my room growing up, even if it wasn’t decorated very well… it would just be fun to have it documented to show to my own kids. Which is why I decided to make it a priority to photograph my own kids in their bedrooms and document how they wanted their rooms decorated as children. My eleven year old, Kaitlyn, has had a “mermaid/ocean” themed room ever since we lived in Monterey and she shared a room with her little sister. We’ve been collecting things over the past three years or so, and when we were moving into our new house in the Sacramento area, I asked the girls if either of them would like to keep the ocean theme. Kaitlyn gladly said she would and we’ve had a fun time planning ways to make her room look more like a pre-teen space. Kaitlyn’s cat, Lola, is a rescue kitty (notice the clipped ear… she was from a feral litter and the vet clipped her ear so she could be released back into the wild, but we rescued her instead!). She follows Kaitlyn around like a puppy and sleeps on the foot of her bed at night. I thought it would be nice to have some pictures of these two together!Yes, we have THREE cats (one for each of our kids). And they’ve all been acquired since we moved into our new house, over the past year!
